Academic Incentives

Tackling the intertwined injuries of racism and climate change requires a new pipeline for recruiting and retaining Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in the professoriate. Through the provision of two postdoctoral positions and one dissertation fellowship, the Academic Incentives team seeks to: create more professional opportunities for BIPoC scholars; to promote scholarship that illuminates racial, Indigenous and (de)colonial dynamics in the PNW; to foster humanities research in environmental justice and climate justice; to create a critical mass of BIPoC scholars and others to help shift UO culture; and to identify potential tenure-track hires who focus on racial, ethnic, Indigenous, and decolonial studies.

Outcomes

More detailed information on these opportunities will be posted here, as it becomes available.

IRES Postdoctoral Position

A one-year-long position focused on race and/or indigeneity with a particular emphasis on the PNW, advised by Professor Laura Pulido. IRES postdoctoral scholars will prepare their dissertation research for publication or conduct additional research, as well as teach one graduate seminar in their areas of specialization.

CEF Postdoctoral Position

A one-year-long position focused on PNW environmental or climate justice, advised by Professors Stephanie LeMenager and Marsha Weisiger. During the fellowship year, the dissertation fellow will be expected to prepare their dissertation for publication, present their work-in-progress at a CEF-sponsored Interdisciplinarity 101 gathering and public talk, and participate in CEF’s regular scholarly gatherings.

CEF Just Futures Dissertation Fellowship

An award to support a UO graduate student completing their Ph.D. in the award year. The dissertation fellow will be expected to complete their dissertation, make a presentation with CEF’s Interdisciplinary 101 gathering, and attend various CEF programs.
